Why do we do it?

Ever since the development of the first (commercially viable) aqualung in the 1940s (Jaques Cousteau and Emile Gagnan) the underwater world has been readily accessible to an animal whose fundamental design precludes any such incursion - bipedal hominids. Prior to this remarkable achievement, our oceans were explored from the surface an extraordinarily narrow perspective or by means of heavy, cumbersome suits too expensive and impractical for mass production. The Scuba system enabled we humans to satisfy our curiosities, appease our adventurous spirits and expand the boundaries of our existence. Those of us who dive either ignore completely or are entirely comfortable with the fact that everyone looks somewhat ridiculous in a mask an snorkel, there is no dignified ambulatory method when one is in flippers (we call them fins by the way) and sometimes when you return to the surface, there is something hanging from your nose, of which your fellow divers may neglect to inform you.
We dive because Scuba Diving is fun.
